Owing to Covid-19, Movie producers and filmmakers have switched the mode of releasing movies to Video Streaming Platforms. Now People have instead of waiting to watch movies in theatres, decided to watch movies on OTT Platforms.

All latest movies are being released on OTT Platforms like Netflix India, Amazon Prime, Hot Star, and Aha Video and more based on subscription. The demand for movies to watch on the OTT Platform has increased rapidly. OTT media services function as content regulators and offer the content to audiences on a subscription basis.

These OTT media services offer the content directly to the audience through the Internet. Therefore, audiences can access media streaming content through smartphones (including Android, iOS, Windows – supported mobile devices), Smart TVs, tablets, laptops, Desktops. It’s surveyed that as of today, smartphone users accounted for more than 45% of Total OTT content, remaining users for Web-based OTT content.

  1. Amazon Prime Video: America’s’ internet video on demand service ‘Amazon Prime Video’ is developed and owned by Amazon. It offers content including movies and TV shows on a rental basis. It has its own dedicated website where Prime Video content is uploaded.  Prime Video promotes as Amazon Prime Video. It has its presence in almost all countries except China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria. Amazon ventured into online as Amazon Unbox in 2006 in the United States. Later it was renamed Amazon Video on Demand. Amazon supports up to ultra-high definition and high Dynamic Range streaming.

Nanis’ 25th movie ‘V’ was released on Amazon Prime Video.

  1. Netflix:  Netflix is a streaming media service provider established in 1997 in America. It offers streaming content including movies, TV shows, and web series apart from production in-house content on the basis of subscription. The company produces and distributes its own content to all countries.

Netflix’s initial business was selling DVDs by mail. Netflix in 2007 extended its business of streaming services. Netflix has over 50 million active subscribers so far.

  1. Aha Video:  Aha is a streaming service provider offering only Telugu content. It is owned by My Home Group and Geetha Arts. This service was launched on March 25, 2020. Apart from the Latest movies, It has old blockbuster Telugu movies and web series.  Recent few movies like Keerthy Surshs’ ‘And The Oscar Goes To’, ‘Nenu Naa Nestahm ’ movies were premiered on Aha Video.
  2. SUN NXT: it’s an Indian streaming service provider owned by Sun TV Network. It was launched in 2017 with content in south Indian languages. The App Sun NXT is available for Android and iOS devices, Smart TVs, Tablets, and other devices as well. Apart from movies, TV Shows, it offers music, news, video clips, and originals. It is available free on Vodafone Play, Jio Cinema, and Airtel Xstream. It offers services on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. It has over 1.1 million subscribers.  
  3. Zee5: It’s an Indian streaming media service provider owned by Essel Group under its subsidiary Zee Entertainment Enterprises. It was launched in India in 2018. It offers content in 12 languages. It has its own mobile app ZEE5 on Android, iOS, Smart TVs, Web, and other devices. Currently, it has over 56 million subscribers. Apart from movies, TV shows, it offers Web series. It is available for free on the Vodafone network, Airtel.
  4. MX Player: MX Player is a video on demand platform and video streaming provider developed by MX Media & Entertainment. So far it has more than 280 million active subscribers across the world. It offers content in 12 languages. It is available on Android, iOS, and the web. It expanded its business operations across the world in 2020.
  5. Disney+ Hotstar: It’s a video-on-demand streaming service launched in 2015 owned by Star India. It offers services on the basis of subscription. Apart from movies, TV Shows, it offers Web Series, Live cricket matches.  Hotstar integrated with its international streaming brand Disney+ in 2020.
  6. Yupp TV: It is a streaming media provider founded in 2006. It offers content including movies and TV shows. It allows its viewers to watch the content of up to six devices like TVs, STBs, PC, smartphones, tablets, and game consoles.   It offers services in 15 languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and all Indian languages.
  7. JioCinema: JioCinema is an Indian streaming media service provider owned by Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. It was launched in September 2016. It offers the content includes movies, TV shows, Music videos, and TV Shows, and more.  It has its own app only for Jio users.
